A SAW SLED
Before
you have been building ship models very long, you will very likely come into the
possession of a small log of boxwood or some other type of wood that you want to
convert into sheets or strips for actual use.
So how do you cut it so that you have two sides that are perpendicular to
each other and flat?
Not an easy problem. What you need is a fixture that will hold the log
and move it in a straight line past your saw blade.
I have a 12-inch band saw that can use a ¾-inch blade, so that is what I
use for this type of job.
I call the fixture a “Saw Sled”.
The one I use is illustrated in
the drawing that follows.
The fixture shown will handle logs about 20 inches long, and the slots
will permit its use on logs as short as 6 inches.
