A KEEL CLAMP FOR THE HAHN BUILDING METHOD
A
number of builders have reported difficulty in getting frames to seat properly
on the keel with the standard method
of installing the frames, that is: by reinstalling the keel to position each
frame without gluing to the keel. The
keel clamp fixes the keel at the correct height above the building board and at
the correct position fore and aft. as well as to ensure that frames are
perpendicular to the building board. The
clamp permits installation of the frames through the hole in the building board.
This in turn permits each frame to be glued to both the building board
and the keel at the same time, ensuring that that the frames set properly on the
keel. The keel is clamped between
the outside members of the clamp. The
jig is reinforced with an aluminum angle to prevent warping of the keel while
the glue sets. The jig can be moved
fore and aft to assure that the frames are perpendicular to the building board
The jig is removed to complete the frame assembly with the cant frames.
