ESTATE PLANNING FOR SHIP MODELERS
Sid Siegel
Here’s a subject we
would all like to avoid. And most of us do, with a few exceptions.
We all know our time will come, and we know that most of our affairs
are pretty much in order. We know who gets the money, who gets the
house, who gets the jewels, and even who gets the ship models. But
what about all that stuff that every ship modeler collects? All
those books with pictures of ships, the plans, the kits you meant to
build, all the tools you intended to use, even the odds and ends and
bits and pieces that might come in handy one of these days. The
multitudinous treasure store that only a ship modeler could love??
Members of the Ship Modelers Association have often been helpful to
families who would like to see a ship modeler’s gatherings placed in
the hands of those who will find them of value. We have helped with
estate sales and when appropriate, the SMA may also accept donations
of ship modeling related items, and provide documentation for a
charitable tax deduction. Of course we are limited in what we can
take. That eleven foot long half finished model of a Spanish
dreadnought is probably not going to find a home at the SMA. But
when and where we can help, members of the SMA have always been and
always will be there for us.
